Shinmaiko Coast is located in Mitsu-cho, Tatsuno City, Hyogo Prefecture, facing the Harima-nada Sea. Also known as Shinmaiko-hama, the area is characterized by a vast, shallow sandy beach and tidal flats that stretch approximately 1 km east to west. Situated within the Setonaikai National Park, it is a well-known leisure spot where visitors can immerse themselves in a beautiful natural environment.

History & Cultural Background

The area has long been cherished for its rich natural coastline. While historical records note a landslide in the area behind the coast in 1971, the site has since been fully developed and managed as a premier leisure and swimming destination. The region also maintains a vibrant local culture, hosting events such as the "Mitsu Sea Festival Sunset Festival," which celebrates local traditions and seasonal festivities.

The most striking feature is the expansive, shallow sandy beach and tidal flats. This unique topography makes it an ideal environment for hands-on activities like clam digging (shiohigari). Additionally, during certain seasons, visitors may witness a breathtaking sight when the winter sunrise coincides with low tide, causing the light to reflect brilliantly off the remaining tide pools on the sand. During the summer, the area opens as a designated swimming beach, drawing crowds for seaside relaxation.
