Guide
Shimane Winery is a comprehensive facility in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture, that integrates wine production, tasting, retail, and dining. The site features several distinct areas: the wine brewing house with its striking Southern European-style architecture, "Bacchus"—a dedicated space for tasting and sales, and "BBQ House Chateau Misan," where you can enjoy local delicacies like Shimane Wagyu beef. Beyond just dining, the winery serves as a cultural hub that introduces the multifaceted charm of Shimane's wine culture through free production tours and a shop filled with local specialties.
The roots of Shimane Winery date back to the 1950s. It began as a strategic response to the quality decline of fruit caused by heavy rainfall in the San'in region. By the 1980s, the facility had evolved into a comprehensive tourism winery, built upon three pillars: the primary industry (grape cultivation through contract farming), the secondary industry (wine production), and the tertiary industry (tourism and hospitality services). Today, it plays a vital role in producing high-quality "Shimane Wine" and promoting the region's agricultural products.

The facility offers numerous opportunities to visually understand the wine-making process. In the brewing house, you can observe the production line, which includes 99 indoor and outdoor tanks and state-of-the-art bottling equipment. At the "Bacchus" tasting room, you can sample approximately 10 varieties of Shimane wines. For those who do not consume alcohol, a dedicated corner offers grape juice made from local Shimane grapes. Additionally, the shop features an extensive collection of wines, local specialties, and original branded merchandise.
The facility operates year-round, but the experience varies by season and time of day. During the summer months (June to September), the BBQ House extends its operating hours until 7:30 PM, allowing for a relaxing evening meal. From May through September, the lineup of local ingredients and wine selections changes alongside the seasons. We recommend visiting the brewing house and shop during the bright daylight hours, and transitioning to the BBQ House for a delightful dinner in the evening.
Your visit can go far beyond simple dining. You can learn about the intricate process of wine production through a free tour of the brewing facility. At the BBQ House "Chateau Misan," you can enjoy a premium set menu featuring Shimane Wagyu beef paired perfectly with local wine. This embodies the concept of
