Located on a peninsula overlooking Lake Shinji, the Shimane Prefectural Art Museum was designed around the theme of "harmony with water." You can enjoy art appreciation alongside the ever-changing scenery of Lake Shinji. From March to September, the museum extends its closing time to 30 minutes after sunset, allowing visitors to spend a relaxing time against the backdrop of a breathtaking twilight. During the winter months (October to February), the museum closes at 18:30, making it ideal for enjoying exhibitions during the bright daylight hours.
Beyond viewing the permanent collection, visitors can discover new artistic perspectives through various special exhibitions. For a deeper understanding of the works, the museum offers a digital audio guide (Pocket Curator) that can be used via a smartphone app, providing detailed background information and commentary on the pieces.

To protect the precious artworks, visitors are asked to observe quiet contemplation while inside. There is no specific dress code, but comfortable walking shoes are recommended for moving through the galleries. Please be mindful of other visitors when moving between exhibition rooms. Additionally, eating and drinking are prohibited inside the exhibition areas; please use the designated spaces for these activities.
