Shikishima Park is a vast, multi-functional park located in Maebashi City, Gunma Prefecture. The park is uniquely divided into two distinct sections: the Sports Facility Area (approx. 17.8 hectares) managed by Gunma Prefecture, and the Recreation Area (approx. 19.8 hectares) managed by Maebashi City. This brings the total area to an impressive 37.6 hectares. In 1989, it was even selected as one of Japan's top 100 Urban Parks, a testament to its successful fusion of athletic excellence and natural serenity.
The history of Shikishima Park is deeply rooted in its relationship with the natural environment. Since the early Showa era, the area has been known as a site for outdoor activities, such as summer forest school programs. As the decades passed, the development of professional-grade athletic venues strengthened its role as a premier prefectural sports hub. Today, the park is managed by a designated administrator, serving as a vital center for both regional sports promotion and community recreation.

Shikishima Park reveals a different face with every season. If you plan to use the sports facilities, please be aware of maintenance schedules or tournament-related restrictions. For example, while the swimming pool is a popular summer destination, please note that there is a scheduled closure for reconstruction from October 1, 2024, to October 31, 2028. In the recreation area, visitors can enjoy the seasonal blooming of roses and peaceful strolls through the greenery. When planning your visit, we recommend checking the operating hours of specific facilities or the Park Management Office (8:30 AM – 5:00 PM).
Beyond watching professional matches or practicing your skills, the park is a wonderful place for casual recreation.
