The name "Sessho" (killing) refers to the Buddhist concept of taking life, reflecting the site's reputation for being a place of intense natural energy and the harshness of nature.
This location is famously mentioned in the works of the great poet Matsuo Basho in his travelogue, "Oku no Hosomichi." Basho captured the essence of this place through his poetry, immortalizing its historical significance.
