Located at the foot of Mt. Bizan, Seibu Koen Park is a lush, green oasis deeply cherished by the residents of Tokushima. Spanning approximately 6.3 hectares, the park provides a serene environment of abundant greenery right in the heart of the city. It is characterized by the changing faces of nature throughout the seasons, serving as a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life and refresh your spirit.
The area surrounding the foot of Mt. Bizan has long maintained a close relationship between nature and local life. The park incorporates elements that evoke a sense of traditional Japanese charm. For instance, during the cherry blossom season, the sight of red lanterns hanging along the paths creates an iconic Japanese spring landscape. It serves as a historical place of rest where local culture and natural beauty seamlessly blend.

The greatest attraction of the park is the shifting botanical scenery that changes with every season. The cherry blossom season in spring is particularly spectacular, featuring a magnificent avenue of cherry trees. The sight of blooming branches stretching across the cityscape offers a beautiful harmony between urban life and nature. Additionally, the presence of traditional elements like red lanterns adds a touch of Japanese elegance, providing a wonderful visual experience for all visitors.
The landscape changes significantly with the seasons, making the cherry blossom period from March to April the most popular time to visit. During spring, you can enjoy strolling through a path of falling pink and white petals. Because the greenery remains lush throughout the year, the park is a great destination regardless of the season. In the bright daylight, the colors of the plants are most vivid, while at dusk, the park offers a much more tranquil and contemplative atmosphere.
Seibu Koen Park is a popular destination for outdoor recreation, such as maintaining health and refreshing the mind. The well-maintained paths are ideal for walking or light jogging. Many visitors enjoy a leisurely stroll through the greenery or simply sitting on a bench to relax, making it a great way to reduce daily stress. It is a versatile space used by everyone from families with children to solo travelers seeking peace.
The area around the park is dotted with spots to enjoy Tokushima's unique culture and sightseeing. For instance, you can take the Bizan Ropeway to access breathtaking viewpoints overlooking all of Tokushima City. Nearby, you can also visit the Awa Odori Kaikan to experience the famous Awa Odori dance culture and other traditional performing arts. This allows you to easily combine a nature-filled walk with a rich cultural itinerary.
While many paths within the park are paved and well-maintained, it is a natural environment, so we recommend wearing comfortable, active clothing and walking shoes. To maintain the beauty and tranquility of the park, please remember to take your trash home with you and follow local etiquette. As parking space is limited, using public transportation is highly recommended.
