Sanuki Kodomo-no-Kuni is the largest children's center in Kagawa Prefecture, located in Takamatsu City. Its most striking feature is its proximity to the runways of Takamatsu Airport, offering visitors a front-row seat to watch planes take off and land. The facility is designed to support the healthy development of children through diverse play and educational experiences, featuring a planetarium, various playground structures, and aviation exhibits. It is a highly popular destination not only for families with young children but also for aviation enthusiasts who wish to observe aircraft movements up close.
Managed by the Kagawa Prefecture Children and Youth Development Foundation, this facility serves as a community hub for the healthy growth of local children. It has long functioned as a center for experiential learning and community-based activities, providing a safe and engaging environment for children to explore the world through play and discovery.
The facility is divided into several specialized areas. The East Wing houses the YS-11 aircraft exhibition, where visitors can explore the interior of a real aircraft. The Space Plaza features a planetarium for celestial learning. The West Wing and surrounding areas offer expansive outdoor spaces, including a Cycle Center, a large lawn area, a mountain bike route, and the Flying Plaza. Additionally, the facility features a unique exhibition of the Kotoden 60-series electric train No. 62, making it a destination for both aviation and railway fans.
While the facility is open year-round, operating hours may vary by season. During the summer vacation period (July 21 to August 31), some days may have extended hours until 18:00 (specifically between August 13 and August 16). The YS-11 aircraft exhibition is typically open for interior viewing on weekends, public holidays, and during spring and summer breaks. For the best experience watching planes, we recommend visiting during peak flight operation times at the airport.
Visitors can enjoy a wide range of activities both indoors and outdoors. Outdoors, you can utilize the cycling routes, mountain bike paths, and the spacious lawn areas. Indoors, the facility offers educational experiences such as stargazing in the planetarium and exploring the aircraft and train exhibits. A small cafe corner is also available on-site for light snacks and refreshments.
Located right next to Takamatsu Airport, the area is a hub for aviation-related sightseeing, with nearby spots like Sanuki Airport Park and Takayama Aviation Park. It is approximately a 35-minute drive from central Takamatsu City. Please note that the shuttle bus service that previously connected the airport to the facility was discontinued in 2016.
As much of the facility involves outdoor movement and cycling, comfortable clothing and athletic shoes are highly recommended. Please be aware that certain rules apply to facility use and that cash is the primary method of payment for services. While the facility is equipped with barrier-free entrances and accessible restrooms, please check for any specific photography restrictions in certain exhibition areas.
