Sakurajima Lava Nagisa Park Footbath is an open-air park facility located in the Sakurajima area of Kagoshima City. Its most distinctive feature is the exceptionally long footbath facility, stretching approximately 100 meters. The water used here is a natural hot spring rising from 1,000 meters underground, characterized by its unique reddish-brown hue. The location offers a rare and beautiful setting where you can simultaneously enjoy the calm waters of Kinko Bay in front of you and the grand, powerful silhouette of Sakurajima behind you.
The surrounding area is characterized by a landscape shaped by volcanic activity. The hot spring water provided here is a natural resource originating from deep beneath the earth, linked to the volcanic activity of the region. This spot is beloved as a place where visitors can directly experience the gifts of nature. It represents a perfect fusion of Sakurajima's dynamic natural environment and Japan's rich hot spring (onsen) culture.

The highlight is the long footbath situated along the seaside promenade. While soaking your feet, you can watch the changing colors of the sky, the striking silhouette of Sakurajima, and the vast expanse of Kinko Bay. The park also features well-maintained, spacious lawn areas, providing an open and refreshing atmosphere. The scenery changes dramatically depending on the season and the time of day, offering a different experience every time you visit.
During the bright daylight hours, the park offers a beautiful contrast between the blue sea and the lush green grass. At sunset, the sky turns shades of orange and gold, creating a breathtaking view of the sun setting behind the silhouette of Sakurajima. While the facility is usable year-round, it is especially pleasant during the mild spring and autumn seasons or during cooler months when the warmth of the hot spring feels most refreshing against the fresh air.
The primary experience here is the natural hot spring footbath. It serves as an ideal place to refresh and soothe tired legs during your travels. Additionally, the spacious lawn areas are frequently used by families and friends for picnics or light recreation. Taking a moment to sit quietly and contemplate the scenery amidst nature is a unique luxury this location provides.
The park is very easy to access and is located within walking distance of the Sakurajima Port Ferry Terminal, making it a perfect base for Sakurajima sightseeing. Nearby, you can find the Sakurajima Visitor Center and the Kokumin Shukusha Rainbow Sakurajima. These facilities allow you to gather more tourism information, find accommodation, or even purchase local souvenirs like original towels. It serves as an excellent first rest stop after arriving at the island via ferry.
Please bring a small towel to dry your feet after using the footbath. If you forget one, they are available for purchase at nearby visitor centers or local accommodations. Casual, comfortable clothing is recommended. As the footbath is a public space, please be mindful of others. No special equipment or swimwear is required, but please follow basic etiquette to keep the facility clean. While the footbath itself is free of charge, please have cash or a credit card ready if you plan to shop at nearby facilities.
