Sakaki Chikuma River Rose Park is a beautiful, rose-themed destination located along the scenic Chikuma River in Sakaki Town, Nagano Prefecture. The park is home to an impressive collection of over 2,300 roses across 330 different varieties, making it a must-visit for both rose enthusiasts and casual tourists. Thanks to its riverside location, visitors can enjoy the vibrant colors of the flowers alongside the natural beauty of the river, the wide sky, and the surrounding mountain ranges.
The park maintains a space that harmonizes with the local natural environment through the cultivation of diverse rose species. Every year, the area celebrates the "Rose Festival" starting in late May, which has become a significant local event. The combination of diverse rose varieties and the natural landscape of the Chikuma River provides a unique cultural experience characteristic of this region.

The greatest draw is the breathtaking view of the park in full bloom. With more than 330 varieties, the roses present different expressions depending on the season. The location, where the sweet scent of roses meets the gentle flow of the Chikuma River, is a particularly enchanting feature. During the peak season, the entire park is transformed into a vivid, colorful landscape that captivates all who visit.
The peak season is typically from late May to mid-June, coinciding with the annual Rose Festival when the most varieties are in bloom. You may also see a different, beautiful side of the park around late September to mid-October. For the best experience, visit during the early morning or late afternoon when the soft light enhances the colors of the roses and the river scenery.
During the Rose Festival, visitors can often find local specialty products for sale, as well as rose seedlings. In the past, the park has also hosted lectures by rose experts and workshops on rose cultivation. The park offers plenty of space for a relaxing stroll among the flowers. During special event periods, you might even encounter small-scale attractions like a mini zoo.
Situated on the banks of the Chikuma River, the park is surrounded by lush, natural scenery. It is easily accessible from Techno Sakaki Station on the Shinano Railway, making it a convenient stop for travelers exploring the Nagano area.
Since the park covers a large area, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. A hat is also useful for sun protection during your stroll. If you use the parking lot, please note that a small cooperation fee (approximately 500 yen) may be requested. When taking photos, please enjoy the scenery while being careful not to touch or damage the plants.
