Saitama Suizokukan (Saitama Aquarium) is located within the scenic Hanyu Suigo Park in Hanyu City, Saitama Prefecture. Since its opening in 1983, the aquarium has specialized in displays centered around the local natural environment, particularly its renowned collection of freshwater species. Because it is nestled within a vast park, visitors can enjoy a seamless experience connecting the indoor aquatic exhibits with the beautiful waterfront scenery outside.
Established in 1983, this facility has served as a vital center for education and local culture, teaching visitors about the natural ecosystems and water-based life of the Saitama region. Operating as part of the Hanyu Suigo Park, the aquarium plays a key role in both nature conservation and providing a relaxing leisure space for the community and travelers alike.

The aquarium offers a deep dive into the world of freshwater biology, allowing guests to observe a wide variety of aquatic ecosystems. One of the biggest draws is the seasonal special exhibitions, which feature rare species and unique themes that differ from the standard permanent collection. The proximity to the vast Hanyu Suigo Park allows for a holistic experience where the indoor exhibits feel connected to the natural landscape outside.
Standard operating hours are from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. However, please note that during the winter season (December 1st to February 28th), the closing time is earlier, at 4:30 PM. Since special exhibitions change throughout the year, we highly recommend checking the official website before your visit to see what unique displays are currently on show.
Beyond observing the exhibits, visitors can enjoy walking through the surrounding Hanyu Suigo Park. This environment provides a wonderful opportunity to see how aquatic life and land-based nature interact. The setting is ideal for those who want to experience the beauty of a waterfront landscape while learning about biological ecosystems.
Hanyu Suigo Park is well-equipped with various leisure areas. The surrounding greenery is perfect for strolls and nature observation. By combining a visit to the aquarium with exploring the nearby park facilities, you can enjoy a full day of nature-filled sightseeing.
We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, as you may want to explore the extensive park grounds. Regarding payments, the base admission is 400 JPY for adults and 100 JPY for children, but please note that during special exhibition periods, prices increase to 500 JPY for adults and 200 JPY for children. Cash is the primary method of payment. Children under 6 years old can enter for free.
