Rengejiike Park is a large-scale comprehensive park covering approximately 31.3 hectares (as of June 2023) in the center of Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Guided by the themes of 'Flowers, Water, Birds, and Smiles,' it serves as a vibrant gathering place for people throughout the seasons. The heart of the park is Rengejiike Pond, surrounded by lush natural landscapes and various recreational facilities.
History & Cultural Background
The central Rengejiike Pond was originally a marshland that was developed during the early Edo period as an irrigation pond. The name 'Rengeji' is derived from the Rengeji Temple that once stood on the northern mountain. In 1869, despite a proposed land reclamation plan, the local community successfully preserved the pond's shape. In 1985, the area was selected as one of the 'Top 100 Natural Sites in Shizuoka,' highlighting its long history of preserving local biodiversity.
