PLAY! is a unique cultural complex located within the GREEN SPRINGS district in Tachikawa, Tokyo. Centered around the themes of "pictures and words," the facility consists of two main areas: PLAY! MUSEUM, an art gallery, and PLAY! PARK, an indoor playground. Designed by the Tezuka Institute of Architecture, the space offers a seamless blend of artistic exploration and physical play.
Emerging alongside the development of the GREEN SPRINGS area, PLAY! is more than just a museum or a playground. It is a space designed to bridge the gap between art, language, and play. The MUSEUM hosts sophisticated exhibitions involving picture books and manga, while the PARK hosts workshops involving music and tactile materials, creating a multi-layered cultural experience.
The facility is divided into two distinct zones:
A space dedicated to visual storytelling, featuring exhibitions themed around picture books, manga, and fine art. The exhibits change periodically, offering a fresh look at various illustrators and artistic themes.
A massive 1,000m² indoor playground designed to spark curiosity. It features large-scale installations like the "Plate" and soft, cloud-like textures, allowing children to engage in physical play regardless of the weather.
While open year-round, the facility offers different experiences depending on the season. Note that special pricing may apply during summer holidays (late July to late August). As the MUSEUM and PARK have different operating hours, please check the schedule before your visit. Weekdays tend to be quieter, while weekends and holidays are much busier with families.
In the MUSEUM, visitors can immerse themselves in art-related exhibitions. In the PARK, the focus shifts to movement and tactile workshops. The facility also includes a shop with original merchandise and a cafe. The cafe is accessible to the general public, not just MUSEUM visitors, making it a great spot for a break.
GREEN SPRINGS is a modern urban space where nature and city life harmonize. The area is perfect for a full day out, with nearby parks and dining options. It is approximately a 10-minute walk from Tachikawa Station.
Credit cards and transit IC cards are accepted at the facility. Please check specific details at the time of purchase.
English is used for some signs and exhibits, but for detailed assistance, please consult the local staff.
Online pre-booking is available for MUSEUM tickets. It is highly recommended to book in advance for weekends, holidays, or long vacation periods. PARK entry details should also be confirmed via the official system.
We recommend wearing comfortable clothing suitable for active play in the PARK. If visiting with infants under 1 year old, please bring a document for age verification (such as a health insurance card or maternal handbook).
