Otaru Art Base is a sophisticated cultural complex located in Otaru, Hokkaido, consisting of four distinct historical buildings. These structures were built during the early 20th century, a period of significant economic prosperity and development in Otaru. For instance, the building housing the Stained Glass Museum is the former Takahashi Warehouse, built in 1923 (Taisho 12) originally for storing soybeans. Other structures date back to 1927 (Showa 2) and feature impressive Renaissance-style exteriors and intricate plasterwork on the ceilings, showcasing the advanced architectural techniques of the time.
