Oshirogawa Valley is located in Hakushu Town, Hokuto City, Yamanashi Prefecture, with its headwaters originating from the Southern Alps' Mount Kaikomidake. The area is officially selected as one of the "100 Best Waterscapes in Japan," making its water clarity truly exceptional. The sight of translucent emerald green water flowing over white granite riverbeds is a mesmerizing experience for all visitors. Depending on your skill level, you can enjoy everything from a gentle stroll to the easily accessible Senga-fuchi to a more challenging trek toward Fudo Falls, which requires proper hiking gear.

History & Culture

The area has long been cherished for its rich natural environment within the Southern Alps. At the entrance to the valley, the Takeu Komagatake Shrine stands as a guardian of the area. Historically, this site has been a place of reverence for nature, where people have come to pray for safety and seek spiritual healing through the pure, flowing waters.

Oshirogawa Valley offers several highlights tailored to different adventure levels:

• *Senga-fuchi**: Located about a 15-minute walk from the parking area, this spot is perfect for beginners and families. The emerald green water against the white granite makes it an ideal place for a short rest.
• *Suspension Bridge**: A symbolic landmark at the entrance to the valley, crossing this bridge provides a thrilling sensation of entering a deep, lush gorge.
• *Jinja Falls**: A powerful three-tiered waterfall with a drop of approximately 30 meters. It is a major destination for more experienced hikers.
• *Fudo Falls**: A grand waterfall located deep in the valley at an elevation of about 1,100m. The view from Fudo Bridge offers a powerful sense of nature's strength.

Seasonal Recommendations

The landscape changes beautifully with the seasons. The vibrant fresh greenery of early summer and the colorful autumn foliage (typically late October to early November) are must-see periods. Please note that the valley paths are closed during the winter season (mid-December to mid-April).

To avoid crowds, we recommend arriving early in the morning (by 9:00 AM), especially during the summer and autumn seasons. Parking lots often fill up by the afternoon, so please plan your trip accordingly.

• *Beginner Course**: A round trip to Senga-fuchi takes about 30–40 minutes and is a relaxing walk to enjoy nature closely.
• *Intermediate/Advanced Course**: Routes leading to Jinja Falls or Fudo Falls require full-scale hiking equipment. You can experience the thrill of navigating rocky paths and suspension bridges while listening to the roar of the falls.
• *Waterfront Relaxation**: Near Senga-fuchi, you can feel the refreshing chill of the water (however, for safety, please refrain from jumping into the water or staying in it for long periods).
