Nishinomaru Garden is a vast, beautiful garden spanning approximately 6.4 hectares, located on the west side of the Osaka Castle Tenshukaku. About half of the grounds are covered in lush, green lawns, offering an open and refreshing landscape. It serves as a perfect urban oasis where visitors can experience nature while feeling the proximity of Osaka Castle's historic structures and moats. The view of the Tenshukaku (Main Tower) framed by the garden is one of the most iconic and symbolic sights in Osaka.
This area is a significant site that tells the story of Osaka Castle's rich history. As part of the structural layout of the castle, the garden is surrounded by historical remnants, including massive stone walls and deep moats. While preserving the atmosphere of a former castle town, the area has been meticulously maintained as a green space for both locals and tourists to relax. It is a culturally valuable area where historical landscapes blend seamlessly with modern urban life.

The greatest highlight of Nishinomaru Garden is the spectacular view of the Osaka Castle Tenshukaku. With approximately 300 cherry trees, primarily Yoshino cherry blossoms, the garden transforms into a brilliant pink landscape during the spring. The expansive lawn area provides a perfect vantage point to enjoy the harmony between nature and the surrounding historic architecture. The contrast between the seasonal flora and the rugged stone walls of the castle creates a unique visual experience throughout the year.
Spring (March to April) is the most vibrant time to visit, as the 300 cherry trees reach full bloom, creating a festive atmosphere. This is the peak season for photographers and nature lovers alike. Even outside of the cherry blossom season, the lush greenery and the imposing presence of the castle offer a serene experience. For the best visuals, visiting during the bright daylight hours allows you to see the sharp contrast between the white walls of the Tenshukaku, the blue sky, and the greenery.

Visitors can enjoy a relaxing time on the vast lawn or take a peaceful stroll while admiring the historical scenery. The area also offers opportunities for cultural immersion, such as visiting nearby facilities like the tea house 'Hoshuan' for a more traditional experience. Depending on the season, there may also be special illumination events that offer a completely different, magical atmosphere after dark.
As part of the larger Osaka Castle Park, Nishinomumar Garden is surrounded by several landmarks including the Osaka Castle Tenshukaku, the Osaka Castle Museum, the Music Hall, and various sports facilities like baseball fields and jogging tracks. The location is also near routes for exploring the castle's outer moats, making it an excellent base for historical exploration. Access is highly convenient via nearby subway stations.

Since the garden is quite large, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. If you plan to spend time on the lawns, bringing a leisure sheet (picnic mat) is very useful. Please note that an admission fee of 300 JPY for adults is required (Cash is standard; please check for recent card availability). While many signs are available, please check local facilities for English-language support. For those visiting the Tenshukaku or other specific facilities, please be aware that they may have separate operating hours. Please respect the local etiquette by not leaving trash behind and following any posted rules regarding the lawn areas.
