The site covers a vast area of approximately 1 million square meters—roughly equivalent to 22 Tokyo Domes. The most striking feature is the imposing, majestic stone walls that rise sharply against the sky. Throughout the Nanboku-cho and Sengoku periods, it was under the control of the Shiga clan, and during the Edo period, it served as the seat of the Nakagawa clan, playing a central role in the region. For approximately 800 years, the site endured numerous conflicts and fires before the main structures were dismantled in 1874. Today, the preserved stone walls and ruins serve as a vital historical site for learning about Japanese castle architecture and culture.

As Oka Castle was an original mountain castle from the early Edo period, the terrain includes many steep slopes, stairs, and stone steps. The area near the Honmaru is particularly steep, so wearing comfortable walking shoes is highly recommended. Please be careful not to get too close to the edges of the stone walls for your safety.
