Oike Park is a vast urban park covering approximately 24.8 hectares, located in the heart of Tokai City, Aichi Prefecture. At its center lies Ota Pond, surrounded by natural forests and scenic walking paths. Since its completion in 1973, it has been a beloved community space. The park features a diverse range of seasonal flora: plum and cherry blossoms in the spring, and beautiful irises in early summer. Near the City Hall side, ten striking iron sculptures are nestled within the lawns, adding an artistic touch to the landscape.
The development of the area around Ota Pond began in 1969 following the establishment of the current Tokai City. The park was fully developed by 1973. The park serves as a vital community hub, surrounded by public facilities such as the Tokai City Hall, Tokai City Central Library, and the Tokai City Municipal Heated Pool. It also forms part of the cultural connection to the local area through the "Flower Path to Visit Heishu and the Great Buddha," a walking route that leads toward Jurakuen Park.
Oike Park offers a variety of attractions for every visitor. The centerpiece is the natural environment surrounding O-ta Pond. The park is home to a rich botanical collection, including 300 plum trees, 1,100 cherry trees, and over 4,000 iris plants. For nature enthusiasts, the "Animal House" and the "Natural History Museum" provide excellent environments for observation. Additionally, the iron sculptures scattered across the grassy areas create a unique and artistic atmosphere found nowhere else in the park.
The park's appearance changes beautifully with the seasons. We recommend visiting in March and April to witness the peak of the plum and cherry blossoms. In May and June, the irises are in full bloom. Another highlight is the "Tokai Matsuri Fireworks Display" held in August, which brings a vibrant evening atmosphere to the area. While the park itself is open 24 hours, the operating hours for sports facilities vary by season. For example, from May 1st to October 31st, sports facilities are available from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM (with the baseball field staying open until 9:00 PM).
There are many ways to enjoy your time at the park. You can utilize the well-maintained sports facilities, including baseball fields and tennis courts. For a more relaxed pace, enjoy a stroll along the walking paths to observe the seasonal plants and the tranquil pond. The park also features play areas for children, making it a perfect destination for families. You can also combine your visit with cultural or athletic activities at the adjacent Tokai City Central Library or the municipal heated pool.
The park is conveniently located next to several public institutions, including the Tokai City Hall, Tokai City Central Library, Tokai City Agricultural Center, and the Tokai City Municipal Heated Pool. This proximity allows for a seamless blend of public services and natural leisure. Access by car is easy via the Nishi-Chita Industrial Road or the K家 (Kake) Interchange.
