Oihira Park is a beautiful natural sanctuary located in Inabu, Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture. The park's history is deeply intertwined with the legacy of the Kobashi family, specifically the 6th generation head, Terunori Kobashi, who dedicated himself to forestry and community education during the hardships of the Tenpo famine. A monument was erected by the District Agricultural Association to honor his contributions. Today, the park is celebrated as one of the most iconic spots for autumn colors in the Inabu area. The landscape is defined by the harmonious blend of nature and history, featuring the stunning Kaze-no-Tsuribashi (Wind Suspension Bridge) that offers sweeping views of the Nagura River.
The park's origins are rooted in the development of the local community. Oihira Park offers a diverse range of natural spectacles throughout the year. The most iconic spot is the Kaze-no-Tsuribashi suspension bridge spanning the Nagura River. From the bridge, visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the rushing river and the lush, dense vegetation surrounding it. Additionally, the forest of giant trees, some of which reflect a long history of planting dating back to the Tenpo era, provides a sense of timelessness. Depending on the season, you can witness the delicate beauty of rhododendrons, the magical glow of fireflies, or the intense, fiery colors of the autumn maple leaves.
The park's appearance changes dramatically with the seasons. In spring and early summer (around May), the northern slopes come alive with blooming rhododendrons. From late June to early July, the area hosts firefly viewing events, allowing visitors to witness the delicate ecosystem of the river at night. Autumn is the peak season, particularly in November, when the "Momiji Matsuri" (Maple Festival) celebrates the breathtaking autumn foliage around the Nagura River. As the park is open 24 hours a day, you can experience the landscape at different times, though daytime visits are ideal for observing plant details, while seasonal events offer specialized experiences.
