This site holds deep historical significance, as the rows of Somei Yoshino cherry trees along the embankment were planted to commemorate the monumental achievement of the "Ogatsu Bunsui" (Ogatsu Water Diversion Project). The walk from the Shinano River Ogatsu Museum to Ogatsu Bridge is a peaceful route where you can feel both nature and history. A highlight is the "Bunsui Oiran Dochu" around April 12th, where you can witness a grand procession of people in dazzling, traditional attire, providing a profound cultural experience.
The nearby Shinano River Ogatsu Museum is an excellent place to learn more about the local history. The area is also accessible from other popular sightseeing spots in Tsubame City and the nearby Yan ability/Tsubame-Sanjo area. During the cherry blossom season, local eateries and event venues in the vicinity become quite lively and festive.
Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended for strolling along the embankment.
