Guide
Odori Park is a vast urban park stretching approximately 1.5km through the center of Sapporo, covering an area of about 7.8 hectares. As a symbol of the city, it provides a lush green space and seasonal colors to the urban landscape. The park is divided into five distinct zones based on themes: Exchange, Oasis, Gathering, Frontier, and Flowers, each offering a unique atmosphere. Visitors can find peace and relaxation among beautiful flower beds, manicured lawns, and a diverse collection of approximately 4,700 trees from about 92 different species.
Odori Park has a rich history that has grown alongside the development of Sapporo. The park's modern layout and development were significantly shaped by the design of Yasushi Nagaoka, a pioneer of modern Japanese parks. Throughout the grounds, you will find various statues and monuments that reflect the history of the Hokkaido frontier. The large-scale events held seasonally serve as cultural symbols for the region, attracting many visitors from both within Japan and abroad.

The park offers various areas to suit your interests and mood. Near West 1-chome, the view of the Sapporo TV Tower creates a beautiful harmony between the city skyline and nature. In the West 12-chome Sunken Garden zone, you can enjoy elegant scenery with fountains and beautiful rose gardens. The park is also dotted with historical statues and unique monuments. The scenery changes completely depending on when you visit—from the fragrant lilac scents of early summer to the dazzling White Illumination of winter.
Each season offers a different charm. From spring to summer, the atmosphere is lively with the Lilac Festival, the YOSAKOI Soran Festival, and the famous summer beer gardens. In autumn, the colorful foliage is breathtaking. In winter, the park hosts the world-famous Sapporo Snow Festival and the enchanting White Illumination event. You can experience bright, natural landscapes during the day and dreamy, illuminated scenery at night.

You can participate in a variety of seasonal activities within the park. During the summer, enjoy Sapporo's rich food culture and seasonal flavors at the beer gardens, and experience the magic of snow and light during winter events. You can also find original Odori Park merchandise at official shops and information centers. Beyond just walking, the park allows you to truly connect with Sapporo's culture through these special seasonal festivities.
Since Odori Park is located in the heart of Sapporo, it is surrounded by many tourist attractions and commercial facilities. It offers excellent access to underground walkways, nearby hotels, and restaurants, making it an ideal spot for a break during sightseeing or a relaxing evening stroll. It is also close to the commercial areas around Sapporo Station and historic districts.

Preparation depends on the season. For summer, we recommend hats for sun protection and plenty of water. For winter, please wear heavy thermal clothing and non-slip shoes suitable for snowy paths. Regarding payments at nearby stalls or shops, cash, credit cards, and transit IC cards are generally accepted. English signage and some English-speaking support are available. For large-scale events or specific tours, we recommend checking the official website in advance. Please follow local etiquette when taking photos and respect the public space.
