Noshi Koen is a sprawling athletic park located in Nishi-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido. Developed on the former site of an agricultural experiment station, it serves as a beloved community hub for both sports and leisure. The park features a diverse range of facilities, including the 'Twin Cap' multi-purpose arena, baseball fields, tennis courts, and various play areas designed for all ages.
The site has a rich history, having once served as the Hokkaido Agricultural Experiment Station under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (now the Agriculture and Food Industry Development Center). In 1992, the area was reclassified as an athletic park, and today it functions as a vital center for physical activity and community-building through sports and recreation.
The park is dotted with facilities catering to various interests. A major highlight is the 'Twin Cap,' an all-weather indoor sports facility covering approximately 3,000m², allowing for activities regardless of the weather. Other notable areas include the baseball field (Field A) equipped with night lighting, tennis courts, and the 'Chapu-Chapu Plaza,' a popular water-play area for children. Depending on the season, visitors can enjoy the beautiful natural scenery surrounding the park.
Activities at the park vary significantly by season. During the summer months (June to September), the 'Chapu-Chapu Plaza' is a favorite for children to play in the water. In the winter (early December to mid-March), the park may even be used for walking-based skiing depending on snow conditions. While some facilities open as early as 5:00 or 6:00 AM, please check the schedule in advance for arena maintenance days or lighting hours.
There is no shortage of things to do at Noshi Koen. You can enjoy indoor sports at the arena or outdoor activities like baseball, tennis, and gateball. For a more relaxed experience, you can even utilize free Nordic walking pole rentals (available at Twin Cap) for a scenic stroll. The park is also highly family-friendly, featuring playgrounds and a traffic corner designed for children to practice cycling.
The park is situated in a peaceful part of Nishi-ku, Sapporo, near the Kotoni-Sapporo River. While the area is scenic and pleasant for walking, please be aware that parking lots can become very crowded on weekends and public holidays. If visiting by public transport, please check local transit schedules in advance.
Please dress appropriately for your intended activity. If using the indoor arena or outdoor courts, comfortable athletic wear and proper sports shoes are essential. Note that food and drinks should only be consumed in designated areas. Smoking and open flames are strictly prohibited throughout the park. Some facilities may require identification (such as a student ID or driver's license) for certain services.
