Mount Nokogiri (Nokogiriyama) is a mountain spanning Futtsu City and Chosa Town in Chiba Prefecture, recognized as a candidate for Japan Heritage. The area is characterized by a striking landscape where the industrial ruins of massive stone quarries on the Futtsu side meet the sacred Buddhist sites of Nihon-ji Temple on the Chosa side. On the southern slope of Mount Nokogiri lies Nihon-ji Temple, which is said to have been founded approximately 1,300 years ago by the monk Gyoki under an imperial decree from Emperor Shomu. As one of the oldest temples in the Kanto region, it has served as a center of worship for centuries. The area has also been a beloved destination for travelers from the Edo period to the present day. You can also access the area via the Tokyo Bay Ferry, arriving at Hama-Kanaya Port.
