Noboribetsu Marine Park Nixe is a premier aquarium located in Noboribetsu, Hokkaido. The facility is centered around the enchanting Nixe Castle, which houses an 8-meter-high Crystal Tower tank and two immersive aqua tunnels. Beyond the marine life, the facility features 'Nixes Land,' an amusement park complete with a Ferris wheel and merry-go-round. As you explore, you will be serenaded by the nostalgic sounds of European hand organs playing throughout the grounds.
Opened in 1990, this facility is recognized as one of Hokkaido's largest aquariums in terms of species diversity and exhibition numbers. The architecture is inspired by a European castle theme, specifically the Nixe Castle motif. The institution has a strong reputation for marine biology, having received several awards from the Japan Association of Zoos and Aquariums (JAZA) for its successful breeding programs.

The park offers a wide variety of exhibition areas and attractions. Inside Nixe Castle, visitors can marvel at the 8-meter-high Crystal Tower and walk through two underwater aqua tunnels. For a hands-on experience, the touch pool allows you to interact with sea stars, sea cucumbers, rays, and horseshoe crabs. The facility also includes dedicated showrooms for dolphins, sea lions, and penguins, as well as land-based animal exhibits. The 'Nixes Land' amusement area provides family fun with rides such as the Ferris wheel, merry-go-round, whale train, Poltergeist House, and battery cars.
The penguin parade is a year-round staple, though the species of penguins (such as King, Gentoo, or Cape penguins) changes depending on the season. In July, the front garden area, Noboribetsu Beach Park, hosts the 'Wakuwaku Hiroba Noboribetsu' festival over two days. Standard operating hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, but please note that the facility typically closes for approximately five days in early April for annual maintenance.

Visitors can enjoy live performances including dolphin and sea lion shows. The famous penguin parade takes place in the plaza in front of Nixe Castle. For those seeking more than just observation, the amusement park area offers various rides, ensuring a multi-layered experience that combines marine education with active entertainment.
The front garden, Noboribetsu Beach Park, hosts seasonal events throughout the year. Nearby, you can also visit other famous local attractions such as the Noboribetsu Bear Park.

Payment via cash or credit card is accepted. Please be aware that there may be specific rules regarding photography and touching the exhibits. Since you will be moving between the aquarium and the outdoor amusement park, comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended. No prior reservations are required for entry.
