Nishi Park is a historic urban oasis located in the heart of Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. Established in 1875, it is the oldest park in the city and has long been a beloved gathering place for locals and visitors alike. The park is most famous for its spectacular cherry blossom season, making it one of Sendai's premier destinations for 'hanami' (flower viewing). Originally opened in 1875 (Meiji 8), the park has a deep connection to the development of Sendai. A popular way to enjoy the park is to spread a blue tarp and have a picnic with friends or family under the cherry trees—a quintessential Japanese leisure activity.
