Nippon Steel Corporation's Keihin Works Kunjima District offers exclusive factory tours through a reservation-only system. Located on a vast expanse of land facing Tokyo Bay, this facility allows visitors to feel the immense scale and dynamic energy of steel production. The program is designed to immerse you in the world of steelmaking, featuring a guided tour via bus to observe the manufacturing processes and various steel products in real-time.
The area in northern Kimitsu City, bordering Tokyo Bay, was established in 1965. A significant milestone was reached in 1968 with the firing of the first blast furnace, which established a complete integrated production system for iron and steel. For decades, this site has served as a vital pillar of the Japanese economy, building a rich history of industrial excellence and supporting the nation's manufacturing prowess.
The centerpiece of the tour is the 'Rolling Process,' where steel products are shaped. The standard course lasts approximately 90 minutes. It begins with an exhibition tour at the Communication Hall, followed by a detailed explanation using video footage. The highlight is the actual bus ride through the plant, where you can observe the precision and power of the rolling process. Seeing the steel transform its shape through such dynamic movement is a spectacle unique to this industrial site.
Tours are conducted only on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month during the morning hours. Please note that tours are not held on Saturdays, Sundays, or public holidays. It is crucial to check the schedule in advance. We highly recommend visiting during the morning session to experience the vibrant and energetic atmosphere of the active manufacturing site.
This program is more than just a simple observation; it is an immersive experience. After gaining a conceptual understanding through video explanations, you will ride a bus to move through the actual production site, allowing you to feel the reality of the manufacturing process. Children in junior high school or younger are welcome to participate, provided they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Strict safety management is in place within the factory, so appropriate clothing is required for all visitors. This tour is strictly by reservation only, and you must book in advance via telephone or other designated methods. Reservations open at 9:00 AM on the first business day, three months prior to the month of your intended visit. The reception hours are from 9:00 to 16:30. Additionally, children in junior high school or younger must be accompanied by an adult at all times for safety.
