Niji no Matsubara is a massive pine forest spreading along the coast of Karatsu Bay in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture. Recognized as one of Japan's Three Great Pine Groves, it is designated as a Special Scenic Spot. The sight of approximately 1 million black pine trees curving gracefully over a distance of 4.5 km and a width of about 500m is truly awe-inspiring. This landscape is a quintessential example of Japan's "Hakusa Seisho" (white sand and green pines), where the harmony between the coastline and the forest creates a unique, tranquil atmosphere.
The history of this pine grove is deeply connected to the Karatsu Domain during the Edo period.
