NIFREL is a unique museum located in the Expo Park area of Suita, Osaka. It is built around the concept of "touching the senses," blending the elements of an aquarium, botanical garden, and zoo. Unlike traditional exhibition styles, NIFREL offers a space where the natural ecology of living creatures and artistic expression coexist. Each exhibition area is designed with a specific theme, creating a landscape where the vitality of life and the beauty of art resonate together.
NIFREL was born from a fresh approach: not just observing living creatures, but reimagining them through the lens of art. It is designed to be more than a simple observation facility; it is a place meant to stimulate human sensibilities and provide new perspectives. Since its opening in 2014, it has become a prominent tourist attraction in the Osaka/Kansai region, drawing attention from both domestic and international visitors.

The facility is divided into several distinct areas that combine elements of an aquarium, botanical garden, and zoo. For example, you can witness displays where aquatic life appears as living art, or spaces where plants and animals coexist in harmony. The movement and colors of the creatures are integrated with lighting and artistic direction, creating a narrative-like experience within each zone.
NIFREL reveals different facets of its beauty depending on the time of day. In particular, the museum occasionally hosts a special program called "Yoru ni Fureru" (Touching the Night). During these evening hours, specialized lighting effects make the displays appear even more ethereal and mystical. Please note that entry to the "Yoru ni Fureru" program requires a specific ticket sold exclusively online.
Visitors can experience the ecology of living things up close. The exhibits present the movements of aquatic life, the textures of plants, and the behaviors of animals through artistic staging. By wandering through the different areas, you can witness the intersection of natural life force and human creativity.
NIFREL is situated in the Expo Park area of Suita, Osaka. The surrounding area features the vast grounds of Expo '70 Commemorative Park, home to the iconic Tower of the Sun. You can easily combine a visit to NIFREL with a stroll through the park. Its location is easily accessible from central Osaka, making it a perfect addition to any Osaka sightseeing itinerary.
The facility is designed for a comfortable experience, but visitors should dress appropriately for walking through various exhibition zones. While photography is allowed, the use of flash and tripods is restricted to protect the exhibits and the living creatures. For a smooth entry, it is highly recommended to purchase your tickets online in advance. Payments can be made via credit cards or transport IC cards (such as Suica/Pasmo/ICOCA) in addition to cash.
