Nagusa Falls (Nagusa-no-taki) is a collective name for the 48 waterfalls located in Fukusaki, Hyogo Prefecture, including Otake, Megami, Niji, Hachiryu, and Kakure waterfalls. This area is a highly prestigious natural site, designated as a scenic beauty of Hyogo Prefecture and recognized as one of the most beautiful views in the Kinki region. The main attraction is the massive Otake Falls (also known as Kannon Falls), which drops 72 meters with a width of 3 meters, offering a truly awe-inspiring spectacle.
This area is steeped in legend as a place where the great Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi (Kukai) practiced ascetic training. The history of spiritual discipline is deeply etched into the landscape of Mount Nagusa. A notable landmark is the 'Tsunagi-iwa' (Binding Rock), a massive stone structure measuring 15m high and 5m wide. Legend says Kobo Daishi trained atop this rock, making it a sacred site for centuries. Nearby, Kongoji Temple serves as another significant historical landmark, being the 12th site of the Harima Saigoku 33 Kannon pilgrimage.
