Guide
Nanasawa Shinrin Koen is a sprawling urban park covering approximately 64.6 hectares, spanning the Nanasawa, Ono, and Kamikosawa areas of Atsugi, Kanagawa. The park is meticulously maintained to preserve the traditional 'Satoyama' landscape—a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. With its flowing streams and lush woodlands, it has been selected as one of the '100 Best Urban Parks in Japan,' making it an ideal destination for those seeking a deep connection with the natural environment.
The region has a rich history as a 'Satoyama' area, which traditionally supported the livelihoods of local communities through sustainable forest management. Today, the park serves as a protected forest to prevent soil erosion while preserving the original topography of the woodlands. Opened on April 1, 1990, the park was developed to maintain the local natural ecosystem while providing a high-quality recreational space for the urban population.

The park features a diverse landscape with undulating terrain, natural streams, and dense woodlands. Visitors can witness the dramatic seasonal shifts, from the vibrant fresh greenery of spring to the breathtaking colors of red and gold during the late autumn foliage season. The grounds also include an outdoor stage and dedicated areas for nature observation, serving as a dynamic space for recreation and environmental education.
Nature takes on a different face with every season. In spring, enjoy the lush new growth, and in autumn, the stunning maple leaves are a highlight. For those looking to enjoy an outdoor meal, the BBQ areas are available from March through November. The park also hosts various seasonal events and specialized programs that change throughout the year.

Nanasawa Shinrin Koen offers a wide range of programs designed to connect visitors with Japanese culture and nature. These include artistic programs such as pottery and traditional crafts, musical programs like the Alphorn, and folk-based activities involving traditional songs and folklore. For those interested in physical wellness, Nordic walking programs are also available. Please note that the BBQ area requires an advance reservation and is subject to fees.
The park is integrated with the 'Kanto Fureai-no-michi' hiking trail, which provides scenic routes leading toward Iiyama Hakusan and Hinata Yakushi. The surrounding landscape continues to showcase the beautiful, preserved scenery of the traditional Satoyama region.

As the park features uneven and undulating terrain, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots. If you plan to use the BBQ facilities, an advance internet reservation is mandatory. For information regarding specific events or cultural programs, please check the official website. Please respect the natural environment and follow all posted park rules.
