Nanagusa-ki no Tenjin Sakura is a magnificent single cherry tree located on a hill surrounded by fields along Prefectural Road 40 in Miharu Town, Fukushima Prefecture. Standing near the Tenjin-sama shrine, this cherry tree presents a beautiful sight that harmonizes perfectly with the natural environment. As a solitary, majestic tree standing atop a hill, it is a beloved spot that symbolizes the arrival of spring.
The tree is located near a shrine dedicated to Tenjin-sama, a deity often associated with learning and scholarship. This location has long been a part of the local landscape, and the tree serves as a living testament to the enduring connection between the community and the natural world. The sight of the great cherry tree blooming with such vitality near this historic shrine is truly a sight to behold.
The primary highlight is the imposing presence of the Edohigan cherry tree standing proudly on the hill. Because it is situated on an elevated area with no obstructions, you can enjoy its powerful branch structure against the backdrop of a clear blue sky. Depending on the timing of your visit, you may also see a beautiful coexistence with daffodils blooming at the base of the tree, which further enhances the visual splendor of the blossoms.
The best season to visit is April. Based on past blooming records, the tree reached full bloom around April 6th in 2018 and around April 18th in 2019. We recommend checking the local blooming status to catch the tree at its most vibrant.

For example, you can visit the 'Nanagusa-ki Sakura' located within a local cemetery or the 'Ryukoji Temple Sakura' on the way to the famous Miharu Takizakura. You can enjoy comparing the unique character and charm of each of these different cherry blossom locations.
Please note that there is no dedicated parking lot at this location. If you are arriving by car, please be considerate of other drivers and avoid blocking the road by parking on wide shoulders or designated safe areas. As the site is in a natural, hilly environment, we recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes.
