Nakayama Toge Ski Resort is a premier ski destination nestled within the breathtaking natural landscapes of Hokkaido. Its prime location along Route 230 makes it a perfect stop during a scenic drive, offering excellent accessibility from Sapporo in approximately 60 minutes. Whether you are looking to experience your first snow of the year or want to enjoy the final runs of the season, the resort's altitude of 830m provides a stunning backdrop of seasonal scenery and crisp mountain air.
The Nakayama Toge area has long been recognized as a vital transportation hub in Hokkaido. Over the years, it has evolved into a beloved leisure destination where people connect with the region's rugged natural beauty. The resort serves as a cornerstone for local winter sports culture, offering specialized experiences such as "Spring Skiing" and seasonal "Fan Parks," ensuring that the excitement of the snow extends beyond the peak winter months.
The greatest charm of this resort lies in its diverse course layouts and seasonal events. While the main winter season is spectacular, the resort comes alive from April to May with "Spring Skiing," allowing visitors to enjoy the sensation of gliding through the snow amidst the arrival of spring. Additionally, the dedicated "Fan Park" area features various snow features designed to help snowboarders and skiers hone their technical skills. From the slopes, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the snow-capped mountains and the vast, clear skies of Hokkaido.
Operating hours vary depending on the season. For the Spring Skiing season (April 1 to May 6), the resort is open from 9:00 to 16:00. The Fan Park operates from 10:00 to 15:30 between April 4 and May 6. We highly recommend visiting during these periods to enjoy activities in the refreshing spring air. Please note that operating hours and availability may change based on weather and snow conditions, so we recommend checking the latest information before your visit.
There is a wide range of activities suitable for everyone from beginners to advanced riders. In addition to standard skiing and snowboarding, you can take professional private lessons offered by the Rissun Resort Ski & Snowboard School, which is SAJ (Ski Association of Japan) certified. Lessons are available for focused individual practice or for small groups of 2 to 5 people, making it an ideal way to improve your technique. For those traveling light, a comprehensive rental service is available on-site.
The area surrounding Nakayama Toge offers the grand, sweeping landscapes typical of Hokkaido. With various rest areas along the national highway, it is a popular destination for road trips. Its proximity to Sapporo, Otaru, and New Chitose Airport makes it an easy and convenient addition to any Hokkaido sightseeing itinerary. The surrounding mountains change their appearance with every season, offering endless natural beauty.
Please ensure you bring plenty of warm clothing to protect against the cold. If you choose to use the rental service, a full set—including skis, boards, boots, outerwear, and accessories (gloves, hats, goggles)—is available. Please note that rentals should be reserved in advance (by the previous day). Private lessons also require a prior reservation via telephone. As a matter of etiquette, please prioritize safety on the slopes and remain considerate of other visitors.
