Nakanojo Gardens is a beautiful botanical destination located in Nakanojo Town, Gunma Prefecture, where nature and exquisite plant life intertwine. The facility is composed of seven distinct garden areas, each offering a unique atmosphere—from the elegant Rose Garden and wisteria trellises to charming, maze-like garden paths. Beyond the stunning floral displays, the site features a farm, a playground, and a shop selling local specialties, making it an ideal place to rest and reconnect with nature.
The region has a long-standing culture of living in harmony with the natural environment. Within the gardens, you can find a traditional plant-dyeing workshop where local elders meticulously craft items using time-honored techniques, preserving the area's cultural heritage. The management of the gardens is deeply synchronized with the natural cycle, with plant displays carefully adjusted to match the changing seasons.
Each area of the gardens offers a different experience depending on when you visit. Key highlights include the Rose Garden, the 'Peach Blossom Hill' where pink blossoms form a beautiful tunnel, and the wisteria-covered paths. The Nakanojo Gardens Shop is another must-visit, offering exclusive items such as 100% fruit juice from local farmers, limited-edition apple chips harvested from the onsite orchard, and handcrafted botanical-dyed tote bags that you won't find anywhere else.
The best time to visit depends on what you wish to see. From March to April, the 'Peach Blossom Hill Festival' showcases approximately 1,000 pink peach trees, yellow cornelian cherry, and white spirea. From late May to mid-June, the Rose Garden reaches its peak beauty. During this period, a special 'Morning Rose Garden Opening' starts as early as 7:30 AM, allowing visitors to enjoy the quietude of the garden before the crowds arrive. Additionally, an Autumn Rose Garden Fair is typically held from late September to mid-October.
The gardens host various seasonal events and fairs. For example, in June, the 'Spring Rose Garden & Bulgaria Friendship Fair' may be held. For dining, the 'Minohara Shokudo' restaurant serves delicious meals using local ingredients, such as seasonal chilled udon noodles. Whether you are shopping for local crafts or simply relaxing amidst the greenery, the gardens offer a complete sensory experience.
The area surrounding Nakanojo Gardens is rich in natural beauty. The adjacent plant-dyeing workshop offers a chance to touch upon local traditional crafts. The site is also well-equipped with farms and play areas, making it a highly suitable destination for families with children.
We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes to navigate the garden paths. While bringing your own food and drinks (including alcohol) is permitted, please do not bring any fire-related items, combustion tools, or weapons. Open flames and campfires are strictly prohibited. Please note that pets are not allowed on the premises. Regarding attire, please avoid overly revealing clothing or clothing that shows tattoos; if necessary, please use clothing covers or supporters. While parking is available on-site, please do not drive your vehicle into the garden areas themselves.
