Nagi Moca (Nagi Contemporary Museum of Art) is a profound architectural and artistic landmark located in Nagi Town, Katsuta District, Okayase Prefecture. Designed by the world-renowned architect Arata Isozaki, the museum is defined by the seamless integration of structure and art. The museum's core concept involves a collaborative creation between the architect and various artists, ensuring that the buildings and the artworks are permanently intertwined. The exhibition spaces are named "Sun," "Moon," and "Earth," each possessing a unique axis aligned with specific natural phenomena. Rather than just a building housing art, the museum itself functions as a singular, massive work of art.
The main building opened its doors on April 25, 1994. The design by Arata Isozaki was specifically tailored to accommodate monumental works by internationally acclaimed artists such as Shusaku Arakawa, Madeline Gins, Kazuro Okazaki, and Aiko Miyawaki. These massive installations are of a scale rarely seen in standard museums, requiring the very space itself to be constructed as part of the artwork.
