Following this, the "Nagaoka Reconstruction Festival" held on August 1, 1946, became the predecessor to the current Nagaoka Matsuri. This festival served as a spiritual pillar for citizens to support one another and move forward toward reconstruction. Even today, at the exact time the air raid began on August 1, a white-colored shell is launched to honor the fallen, accompanied by the ringing of temple bells to pray for peace.
