Nabekanyama is a mountain standing at 169m, characterized by its unique shape resembling a pot with a lid (as its name suggests). Surrounded by lush greenery, it is a beloved spot for both locals and visitors. The highlight of this location is the corridor-style observatory, which was renovated in 2016. From this vantage point, you can enjoy a sweeping view of Nagasaki Port, the city center, and Mt. Inasa across the water. Since it is about half the height of Mt. Inasa (333m), it offers a more intimate and three-dimensional perspective of Nagasaki's iconic bowl-shaped topography.
This area plays a vital role in preserving the historical landscape of Nagasaki. The surrounding region is dotted with sites related to the "Sites of Japan's Industrial Revolution: Meiji Industrial Revolution," including several UNESCO World Heritage components. The observatory allows you to witness a diverse range of scenery simultaneously. You can watch large cruise ships anchored in Nagasaki Port or passing through the Meganebashi Bridge. Additionally, the view captures the silhouette of Mt. Inasa on the opposite shore and the historic cityscape of Nagasaki, including the Glover Garden area. It is a perfect place to observe the beautiful harbor town from a high vantage point, showcasing the dramatic elevation changes typical of the region.
Nabekanyama offers different expressions depending on when you visit. During the day, the contrast between the blue sea and the white cityscape is striking. At dusk, as lights begin to flicker around the Meganebashi Bridge and the port, the area transforms into a beautiful nightscape. While the greenery is lush throughout the seasons, the view tends to be exceptionally clear during periods of high air clarity, allowing you to see distant islands more vividly.

While there is no fee to enter the park area itself, cash or credit cards can be used for any applicable parking fees in the vicinity.

No advance reservations are required to visit.
As the observatory is an outdoor area, it can be quite windy. We recommend bringing clothing appropriate for the season and wind protection. Comfortable walking shoes are also recommended.
Photography is freely permitted, but please be mindful of others and maintain good manners while capturing the scenery.
The area is equipped with wheelchair-accessible entrances and designated parking spaces for those with mobility needs.
