The history of this location is inextricably linked to the Sengoku-period warlord Shimazu Yoshihiro. Originally, the site was home to Myoenji, the family temple of Lord Yoshihiro. However, due to the Buddhist temple abolition edicts in the early Meiji era, the temple ceased to exist in its original form. The legacy and spiritual history were subsequently carried on by Tokushige Shrine, which enshrines Lord Yoshihiro. Even today, the site remains a vital cultural heritage, with various lanterns and artifacts donated by the Shimazu family serving as a testament to the enduring connection between the local community and its history.

As this is an outdoor event held at night, we recommend bringing a light jacket or wrap to accommodate the drop in temperature. For comfort, wear shoes that are easy to walk in, as the shrine grounds include gravel paths.
Photography of the beautiful lantern light is permitted; however, please be mindful of other visitors and avoid using flash if it becomes a distraction. Please follow any specific instructions provided on-site.
Due to the natural terrain and stairs within the shrine grounds, visitors using wheelchairs should proceed with caution regarding steps and uneven surfaces.
