The Moto-Arakawa Sakura Trees are a celebrated cherry blossom destination located along the banks of the Moto-Arakawa River in the Kamatsuka district of Konosu City, Saitama Prefecture. Approximately 500 Yoshino cherry trees line both sides of the river for a distance of about 2.6 km. This location has been officially recognized as one of the '700 Most Beautiful Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan,' making it an iconic landmark of the region.
The Moto-Arakawa River has a rich history, once serving as the main channel of the Arakawa River, and today it continues to play a vital role in local agriculture and irrigation. The river basin is also a significant site for environmental conservation; it is notably known as the only habitat for the rare 'Musasitomiyo' (a type of dragonfly). The area is dotted with various bridges and weirs, reflecting a long-standing cultural relationship between the local community and the water.

The most striking feature is the continuous tunnel of Yoshino cherry blossoms stretching along both banks of the river. During the peak of spring, these 500 trees create a breathtaking pink canopy. A major highlight is the evening illumination event, where traditional lanterns are lit, offering a magical and completely different atmosphere for viewing the 'night sakura' compared to the daytime.
The primary season to visit is spring (typically March to April), timed with the blooming of the Yoshino cherry trees. While you can enjoy the scenery during the day, the evening light-up events are highly recommended for a unique experience. Visitors often spend the daytime strolling along the riverbanks and return in the evening to witness the illuminated landscape.

The area is perfect for a relaxing stroll along the well-maintained riverbanks. The open space allows you to feel the changing seasons intimately. The landscape is also characterized by various bridges, including pedestrian bridges, which provide excellent vantage points to view the river and the cherry blossoms from above.
The Moto-Arakawa river basin is surrounded by several other notable cherry blossom spots. For example, the area near Yabata Bridge in Shiraoka City and the riverside parks in the Tsubuyama district of Hasuda City also offer beautiful scenery. Additionally, the nearby Iwatsuki Castle Ruins Park in Saitama City is a great place to explore historical architecture alongside seasonal nature.
