Mizugatsuka Park is located at an altitude of 1,450m in the mid-slope of Mt. Fuji in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Positioned at the 2nd station (Nigome), it is famous for providing a sense of overwhelming scale that is vastly different from the views seen from a distance. The park preserves rich natural surroundings that change beautifully with every season. During the summer, it plays a vital role as a base for Mt. Fuji climbers and a shuttle bus stop for those heading toward the 5th station.
Directly in front of the park lies the Hoei Crater, formed by the massive Hoei eruption in 1707. The presence of this crater serves as a striking historical testament to the fact that Mt. Fuji remains an active volcano. This environment offers a rare opportunity to observe both the wonders of nature and the traces of historical volcanic activity up close.
The greatest charm of the park is the unobstructed panoramic view of Mt. Fuji. The experience of seeing the rugged terrain of the Hoei Crater from such proximity is unique to this location. The park also features well-maintained cross-country skiing courses, allowing visitors to enjoy sports while breathing in the crisp, cool air. Additionally, if you head toward the 'Fureai Hiroba' area, you will find a path leading to the Koshikitsuka Observatory, where you can gaze upon the majestic silhouette of Mt. Fuji without any obstructions.
You can enjoy different landscapes throughout the year. From spring to summer, the area is filled with lush greenery and vibrant energy during the climbing season. In autumn, you can enjoy the changing colors of the leaves, and in winter, the 'Snow Play Area' opens up due to the snowfall. The winter season is particularly popular as a spot for children to enjoy sledding. However, please note that from December to March, temperatures are very low and snow is present, so please prepare for changes in weather and temperature.
Mizugatsuka Park offers a variety of outdoor activities. Popular options include cross-country trekking on established courses and sightseeing from the observation decks. During the winter season, sledding at the 'Snow Play Area' is a favorite activity for families. Furthermore, at the adjacent 'Mori no Eki Fuji-san' facility, you can experience local food culture by enjoying meals made with local ingredients and purchasing various Mt. Fuji-themed souvenirs.
The 'Mori no Eki Fuji-san' facility within the park provides a place for rest, dining, and shopping. Additionally, the Koshikitsuka Observatory is located about a 10 to 15-minute walk from the park, serving as a key spot for viewing the grand landscape of Mt. Fuji. In the summer, many climbers also pass through this area via the Mt. Fuji Skyline to reach the mountain.
Because the park is located at 1,450m, the temperature is significantly lower than at sea level. Especially in winter or during sudden weather changes, please prepare heavy clothing and thermal gear to stay warm. If you plan to enjoy the snow, specialized clothing for snow activities is highly recommended. While there is a parking lot on-site, please check in advance as rules may change during the summer vehicle restriction periods. Regarding payments, since the availability of credit cards varies by facility, we recommend carrying cash for convenience.
