Mitsukejima is an uninhabited island designated as a natural monument in Ishikawa Prefecture, located along the coast of Suzu City. The landscape is defined by a dramatic contrast between the sheer, white cliffs rising from the sea and the lush greenery crowning the summit. The island measures approximately 158.5 meters in length, 45.3 meters in width, and reaches an elevation of 28.8 meters. It offers a dynamic geological formation shaped by the power of the ocean, creating a harmonious view with the surrounding calm waters. The name "Mitsukejima" carries deep historical significance. Another legend attributes the discovery to the deity Kashiwarihikogami, who is said to have descended to this land. Throughout history, the island has been revered both as a natural wonder and a site of spiritual significance. Historically, a nearby rock formation known as "Kojima" was part of this scenic set, though it has since disappeared due to natural phenomena.
The most striking feature of Mitsukejima is its massive monolithic appearance floating on the sea. The near-vertical cliffs are the result of centuries of wave erosion, serving as a testament to the beauty of natural sculpting. The summit is covered in native vegetation such as Japanese Spindle (Motinoki) and Machilus (Tabunoki), creating a beautiful color contrast against the white rock faces.
