Minowa Ski Resort is a premier destination located in Inawashiro, Yama District, Fukushima Prefecture, set against the stunning backdrop of the Ou Mountains. The slopes, sprawling across the western side of Mt. Minowa, offer a dynamic skiing experience that utilizes the natural terrain. One of its most unique features is its exceptional location directly above the Route 115 Tsuruya Tunnel. This provides excellent accessibility by car, ensuring smooth travel even during heavy snow seasons. The resort is also integrated with Hotel Premier Minowa, allowing guests to seamlessly combine high-quality accommodation with winter sports.
This area has long been shaped by its rich natural environment at the foot of the Ou Mountains. The management of the ski resort has evolved over time; previously operated by Mack Earth Co., Ltd., the facility was transferred to Blue Capital Management Co., Ltd. in 2018. It is now branded as "Blue Resort MINOWA." The surrounding area is steeped in tradition, with historic hot spring towns and landscapes that reflect a harmonious way of life with nature. This makes the resort more than just a sports facility; it is a place deeply connected to the local cultural and natural heritage.
The biggest draw is the variety of courses that utilize the natural undulations of the mountain. A particularly striking feature is the way the slopes interact with the landscape, including the area where the terrain passes over the Route 115 Tsuruya Bypass, creating a unique visual experience where infrastructure and nature meet. Depending on the season, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding mountains blanketed in silver snow. The contrast between the silence of the snowy mountains and the thrill of the dynamic terrain is a major attraction. Please note that this region is known for strong winds, which can lead to changes in visibility or temporary closures for safety. Embracing these natural changes is part of the authentic mountain experience.
The best time to visit is from January to March, when the snow quality is stable and the scenery is most beautiful. January and February are particularly ideal for serious winter sports enthusiasts. While the daytime offers brilliant views of the sun reflecting off the white slopes, temperatures drop sharply toward the evening, so heavy thermal protection is essential. During heavy snowfall, the atmosphere becomes incredibly mystical, though visibility may decrease, requiring extra caution.
The primary activities are skiing and snowboarding. You can feel the speed and the natural rhythm of the mountain through the slopes of Mt. Minowa. Beyond the slopes, the area is dotted with many hot spring (onsen) destinations. This allows you to experience the quintessential Japanese
