Minokura Kogen Flower Field is a magnificent floral destination located at an altitude of 650 meters on the former grounds of the Minokura Ski Resort in Kitakata City, Fukushima Prefecture. Spanning a vast area of approximately 8 hectares, the landscape transforms beautifully with the seasons. In spring, the hills are blanketed in bright yellow rapeseed blossoms. From summer to autumn, the field becomes one of the largest sunflower displays in the Tohoku region, boasting roughly 2.5 million sunflowers. The open landscape provides a breathtaking, unobstructed view of the Aizu Basin.
The site was developed using the terrain of the former Minokura Ski Resort. By utilizing the natural slopes of the mountain, the site offers a wide, open vista that maximizes the beauty of the scenery. It has become a beloved destination where visitors can experience the changing seasons through the blooming of various flowers and plants.
The greatest charm of this location is the dramatic change in scenery throughout the year. In spring (mid-to-late May), the hills are covered in a vibrant yellow carpet of rapeseed flowers. In summer (mid-to-late August), the field is filled with millions of sunflowers, creating a stunning contrast against the blue sky and green mountains. Additionally, on the viewpoint hill, you will find the 'Bell of Happiness' (Kofuku no Kane), which was installed in connection with the symbolic meaning of the flowers. It is a popular spot where visitors can ring the bell to make a wish.
There are specific peak times to visit depending on the flowers you wish to see. For the rapeseed flower season, visit from mid-May to late May. For the sunflower season, the peak is from mid-August to late August. We recommend visiting during bright daylight hours to capture the most vivid colors for photography. Please note that blooming periods may vary depending on weather conditions, so checking the current status in advance is recommended.
Visitors can enjoy a relaxing stroll through the vast flower fields, surrounded by nature. At the viewpoint hill, you can experience the local culture by ringing the Bell of Happiness.
