Guide
Minatoyama Park is a scenic urban park located in Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, situated right next to Nakaumi Lagoon. The park features well-maintained seaside promenades where you can enjoy a relaxing stroll while feeling the refreshing sea breeze. It is widely known as one of the best spots to witness the spectacular sunsets over Nakaumi Lagoon; during the golden hour, the water surface transforms into a brilliant, dramatic red. With its lush greenery and open spaces, the park is a perfect destination for jogging, picnics, or a romantic date.
The area holds significant historical value as it once formed part of the coastline of Nakaumi Lagoon. Historically, the area was known as "Kinkoen." Through the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras, the site has been continuously developed and expanded into the beautiful park seen today. During the Taisho era, it gained popularity as a famous cherry blossom destination, leading to the planting of various willow and azalea trees. The region also has a history of rowing and boat racing, serving as a hub for local sports. Today, it remains a vital part of the community, blending modern urban leisure with its natural and historical roots.

The greatest charm of Minatoyama Park lies in its seasonal transformations. In spring, approximately 500 Yoshino cherry trees bloom in full splendor, making it one of the top cherry blossom viewing spots in the Yonago area. The paths along the cherry trees are ideal for hanami (flower viewing). The sunset view is equally unmissable; seeing the Nakaumi waters turn shades of orange and deep red is a truly moving experience. During the spring festival, over 100 traditional lanterns (bonbori) are lit, casting a warm, nostalgic glow over the park. Additionally, the area occasionally hosts events related to the local Gaina Festival in August, showcasing the vibrant culture of the region.
Spring (March–April) is the peak season when the entire park is bathed in pink hues. The "Yonago Sakura Festival" in early April is particularly special, featuring evening illuminations and lantern displays that create a magical atmosphere different from the daytime. For the best experience, we highly recommend arriving 30 minutes before sunset. Watching the sun dip below the horizon of Nakaumi Lagoon is a signature experience of this park. In summer, the park also offers beautiful evening scenery and various seasonal events.

There are many ways to enjoy the park. You can engage in light exercise like walking or jogging along the seaside paths, or simply enjoy a slow-paced stroll while admiring the lagoon. The spacious lawns are perfect for a relaxing picnic with family or friends. Whether you are looking for a peaceful retreat in nature or a place to enjoy a social outing, the park accommodates all styles of leisure. Participating in seasonal events like cherry blossom viewing or local festivals is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the local atmosphere.
The park is conveniently located near the urban center of Yonago City. It is within walking distance or a short drive from JR Yonago Station, making it highly accessible for travelers. The surrounding area offers various accommodations and dining options, making it an excellent base for exploring the Tottori region. The local landscape still retains traces of the historical coastline, providing a sense of the area's geographical evolution.
