Guide
Minato Park is a beautiful, open space located in the heart of Kashima Port, one of the world's leading recessed artificial ports, situated in Kamisu City, Ibaraki Prefecture. The park is uniquely nestled within a Y-shaped harbor structure, offering a striking landscape where the water meets the land. Its vast grounds provide a sense of openness, making it a popular destination for those looking to escape the city bustle and relax. Whether you are looking for a peaceful stroll, a family picnic, or a scenic stop during a road trip, this park is a wonderful destination.
The area has developed around the massive infrastructure of Kashima Port. The park was designed to serve both as a functional part of the port area and as a recreational space for the community. For a period from 2023 to 2027, the park's name is officially known as "Heisei Bussan Park Minato Park" due to a naming rights agreement. It serves as a local landmark where the industrial culture of the port harmonizes with the natural beauty of the coastline.

The greatest draw of Minato Park is its stunning waterfront scenery. Because of its location within the Y-shaped harbor, visitors can experience a dynamic maritime atmosphere from almost any vantage point. The wide grounds feature well-maintained walking paths and lush green areas, perfect for a slow-paced afternoon. While the observation tower was once a popular spot for panoramic views, its use is currently suspended for safety reasons. However, the outdoor areas remain fully open, allowing you to enjoy the expansive scenery and sea breezes.
The park is accessible 24 hours a day, offering different moods depending on the time. During the day, the bright sunlight makes the water sparkle and the greenery pop, making it ideal for families. At dusk, you can experience the "magic hour," where the colors of the sunset reflect beautifully on the water's surface. Please note that certain seasonal events, such as the previous winter illumination of the observation tower, are currently suspended due to the tower's restricted access. We recommend checking local conditions if you plan to visit during specific seasons.

Activities here primarily focus on relaxation and enjoying the scenery. Walking through the vast grounds allows you to breathe in the salty sea air and clear your mind. Since the park is easily accessible by car, it is a perfect spot to stop for a break during a drive. While certain facilities like the observation tower are currently unavailable, the park remains an excellent place for a "scenic experience"—simply walking, breathing, and enjoying the unique harmony of nature and the industrial port landscape.
Minato Park is located near the Kashima Coastal Industrial Zone, an area vital to Japan's logistics and industry. The park is easily accessible by car and can be a perfect addition to a driving route through Ibaraki Prefecture or a trip toward Itako. It is a great way to experience the unique coastal and port-side scenery that characterizes this part of the Ibaraki coastline.
As the park is vast and close to the water, we highly recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes. Since there is limited shade, bringing a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen will help protect you from the sun. Please be aware that the observation tower is currently closed; for your safety, do not enter any areas cordoned off by barricades. While the park area is generally free to use, please respect the local environment and follow all posted signs to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone.
