Minami-Inaga-ko Lake is a small, picturesque lake located in Minami Alps City, Yamanashi Prefecture. The area is divided into two parts: Minami-Inaga-ko and Kita-Inaga-ko. Minami-Inaga-ko is particularly easy to access as it sits directly along Prefectural Route 108. The surrounding landscape is characterized by diverse tree species such as maple, oak (mizunara), and katsura, which offer a spectacular display of changing colors throughout the seasons.
The greatest charm of Minami-Inaga-ko Lake is the stunning reflection of autumn foliage on its calm, mirror-like surface. The deep reds of the maple trees and the warm yellows of the oak and katsura trees create a vivid palette that is perfectly mirrored in the water. Because the lake surface is exceptionally still, the reflection of the surrounding forest creates a serene and breathtaking landscape that is perfect for photography and relaxation.
The best time to visit is from mid-October to mid-November, when the autumn colors reach their peak. During this period, the maple, oak, and katsura trees turn brilliant shades of red and yellow. To see the most vivid reflections on the water, we recommend visiting during the daytime when the sunlight enhances the colors of the trees and the clarity of the lake.
Visitors can enjoy a peaceful stroll around the perimeter of the lake to soak in the scenery. The autumn season is especially popular for those who wish to observe the interplay of light, color, and water in a quiet, natural environment.
The area around Minami-Inaga-ko Lake includes other scenic spots such as the Kenmin-no-mori (Prefectural Forest) and Shobuike Pond, both of which are excellent locations for nature walks and enjoying the local landscape.
As this is a natural area, please wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing suitable for light hiking or strolling. The site features ample parking: 111 spaces for standard cars, 3 spaces for large buses, and 7 spaces for motorcycles. Please respect the natural environment and follow local etiquette to help preserve the area.
