Mikata Goko is a group of five lakes (Mikata, Sugetsu, Suga, Kuko, and Hinata Lakes) spanning Mihama Town and Wakasa Town in Fukui Prefecture. These lakes are connected by waterways excavated during the Edo period, and each possesses a unique character—ranging from freshwater to saltwater or brackish water. Because of this, the water color and salinity vary from lake to lake, creating a colorful and striking landscape that captivates all who visit.
