Michi-no-Eki Akita Minato Port Tower Serion is a landmark of Akita, featuring a tower with a total height of 143m. The observation deck, located 100m above ground, offers a stunning 360-degree panoramic view. From this vantage point, you can look down upon the industrial areas of Akita Port, the surrounding cityscape, and the vast, majestic Sea of Japan. The scenery changes beautifully depending on the weather and time of day, offering everything from bright blue skies to golden sunsets and sparkling night views.
This facility serves as a local landmark that has grown alongside the development of Akita Port. Beyond its function as a roadside station (Michi-no-Eki), it serves as a community hub where locals and tourists can relax. With its observation tower, cafe, and local product shops, it symbolizes the natural beauty and maritime richness of the Akita region.
The biggest draw is the free observation deck at 100m altitude. The structure is enclosed in glass, providing an unobstructed view of the surroundings. Telescopes are available inside for closer viewing. The deck also features unique "couple benches" designed to allow visitors to enjoy the view closely. Additionally, the "Serion Cafe" located at 96m allows you to enjoy food and drinks while taking in the spectacular scenery.
The view changes with the seasons. On clear days, you can see the distant peaks of Mt. Chokai and the Oga Peninsula, and the color of the sea shifts beautifully. The sunset over the Sea of Japan is particularly breathtaking. At night, the lights of Akita City and the port create a romantic atmosphere, making it a popular spot for couples. Furthermore, the "Serion Lista" indoor green space ensures you can enjoy the atmosphere regardless of the weather.
At the "Serion Garden," you can shop for local Akita specialties, and the cafe offers a place to relax. For a unique and nostalgic experience, there is a "Udon/Soba Vending Machine" that provides quick, easy meals. This allows you to experience a touch of local food culture alongside the panoramic views.
The area surrounding the station is a port-centric district centered around Akita Port. It is a popular destination for driving tours and a great stopping point when sightseeing in Akita City. The presence of indoor facilities like Serion Lista ensures you can enjoy the atmosphere even if the weather becomes unstable.
Most shops and cafes within the facility accept cash and credit cards (such as Visa and MasterCard). However, cash may be required when using the vending machines.
While some signage may be available in English, please note that English support from staff may be limited and varies depending on the shop or time of day.
No prior reservation is required to use the observation deck. Cafes and dining facilities can also generally be used without a reservation.
Photography is permitted on the observation deck. Please be mindful of other visitors and follow etiquette while taking photos.
As this is an indoor facility, standard seasonal clothing is appropriate. We recommend bringing warmer clothing if visiting during the winter months.
The facility is designed with accessibility in mind, including wheelchair-friendly routes. However, we recommend checking specific access paths to the observation deck in advance.
