The cherry blossoms of Matsukawa are a premier way to experience spring in Toyama City. As the season arrives, the cherry trees lining both sides of the Matsukawa River reach full bloom, creating a breathtaking "cherry blossom tunnel" that seems to cover the sky. During the day, the landscape is incredibly serene, characterized by the harmony of the gentle river flow, blue skies, and soft pink blossoms. At night, the area transforms through special illuminations. The contrast between the illuminated white blossoms, the deep night sky, and their reflections on the water creates a truly mystical atmosphere. The sight of the iconic red sightseeing boats gliding through the river adds a perfect, classic touch to this scenery.
The landscape along the Matsukawa River has long been cherished as a symbolic view of Toyama City. Located near areas with historic castle architecture, the river preserves a beautiful blend of natural beauty and urban history. During the cherry blossom season, it becomes a central location for locals and visitors to celebrate the arrival of spring. In recent years, continuous landscape maintenance and tree planting efforts have been undertaken to ensure this beautiful scenery is preserved for future generations.

The greatest draw is the continuous row of cherry trees along the riverbanks. The view from a sightseeing boat is particularly special, offering a unique perspective of the colorful interplay between the water and the blossoms. During the nighttime illumination period, the brightness of the white blossoms against the dark sky is striking, and the reflections on the water's surface are exceptionally beautiful. The Isobe Tsutsumi area is also a highlight, featuring a vast expanse of hundreds of cherry trees. There are well-maintained walkways nearby, allowing you to enjoy the scenery while feeling the gentle flow of the river.
The best time to visit is from late March to mid-April. During the day, you can enjoy the vivid colors of the blossoms under bright sunlight; we recommend visiting in the afternoon to capture the scenery in soft, gentle light. At night, the illumination is a must-see event, typically occurring between 18:00 and 23:00. The illuminated trees present a completely different, more ethereal expression than they do during the day, making for highly photogenic moments. However, please be aware that paths can be dark during the night, so exercise caution while walking.

A very popular way to experience this area is by taking a sightseeing boat. Looking up at the
