Marunuma Kogen Ski Resort, located in Katashina Village, Gunma Prefecture, is one of the most prestigious ski resorts in the Kanto region, boasting high altitude and an extended operating season. Situated at approximately 2,000m on the slopes of Mt. Nikko-Shirane, the resort maintains exceptional snow quality due to its high elevation.
The resort's greatest strengths are its vast terrain and long season, typically running from late November to early May. This makes it one of the earliest resorts to open in the Kanto area. The upper sections of the mountain are designed for intermediate and advanced skiers, offering long-distance riding and terrain-based fun. Additionally, the top station provides a spectacular viewpoint where you can gaze upon famous peaks such as Mt. Asama, Mt. Kusatsu-Shirane, Mt. Tanigawa, Mt. Takobo, and Mt. Shibutsu.
Marunuma Kogen has a long history of operation and has evolved alongside the changing landscape of winter sports. While it once had stricter regulations for snowboarding, it is now a fully inclusive resort where snowboarding is welcomed on all courses. The resort has also focused on nurturing the next generation of athletes through programs like the NSD Kids Program and the installation of specialized snow parks.
The slopes are divided into three main areas: Upper, Middle, and Lower.
The best time to visit is between December and April when the snow is most stable.
Standard operating hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. However, please note that closing times may shift to 4:00 PM during specific periods (such as early January or early May). Night skiing is only available during special events; please check the latest schedule in advance.
