Maizuru Nature and Culture Park is a vast, nature-rich park located on the Oura Peninsula in Maizuru City, Kyoto Prefecture. Developed on the former site of the Seibu Farm, the park covers approximately 34.7 hectares of land where seasonal plants thrive. The most distinctive feature of this park is its "seasonal opening style," where certain areas are open only during specific times of the year to showcase specific blooms. In the spring, you can enjoy rare varieties of camellias; in early summer, a massive hydrangea garden spanning about 2 hectares comes alive; and in autumn, the landscape is painted with vibrant fall colors. The scenery changes completely depending on when you visit, offering a unique experience every time.
The land was originally used as the Seibu Farm. Maizuru City later acquired the site and developed it into the Maizuru Nature and Culture Park. The park is managed to allow citizens and tourists to interact with nature while simultaneously protecting the local environment. It plays a vital role in preserving the rich ecosystem of the Oura Peninsula and serves as a center for displaying and protecting plant diversity, making it a symbol of the region's natural culture.
The highlights of the park are the specific "gardens" that change with the seasons. From mid-to-late March, the "Camellia Garden" features rare camellia varieties that are hard to find elsewhere. From mid-to-late June, the "Hydrangea Garden" becomes a highly photogenic spot, with approximately 100 varieties of hydrangeas blooming across a vast 2-hectare area. In November, the "Autumn Foliage Garden" offers a breathtaking display of colors that signal the deepening of autumn. These views are precious because they can only be experienced during their respective seasonal opening periods.
Because the park's opening periods are limited to match the blooming cycles, it is essential to check the schedule before visiting. The Camellia Garden is the focus in March, the Hydrangea Garden in June, and the Autumn Foliage Garden in November. Generally, the park is closed outside of these periods, so please verify the opening status in advance. To experience the full vitality of nature, try visiting during the hydrangea season in early summer; the soft morning light makes the colors of the flowers appear particularly vivid.
The park features well-maintained walking paths where you can enjoy a close-up view of seasonal plants. Whether it is photography in the hydrangea garden or observing rare camellias, the park offers a wonderful way to connect with nature. Facilities such as restrooms and parking lots are available, ensuring a comfortable stroll. Walking through the lush environment of the Oura Peninsula provides a peaceful escape from daily life.

The Goro Sky Tower offers a panoramic view of Maizuru Bay, showcasing the harmony between the sea and the land. Cash may be required for the admission fee. To protect the environment, please do not pick or damage any plants.
