Maiko Snow Resort is a premier ski destination nestled within the breathtaking natural beauty of Minamiuonuma, Niigata Prefecture. The resort features three distinct areas centered around the Maiko Gondola: the Maiko Area, the Nagamine Area, and the Ozochi Area. Each area offers unique characteristics, making it an ideal destination for everyone from beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders. A standout feature is the on-site hot spring (onsen) facility, allowing guests to unwind in natural thermal waters after a day of winter sports.
The region has long been celebrated for its heavy snowfall and deep-rooted skiing culture. Today, under the management of the Hospitality Partners Group, the resort has evolved into a modern, high-quality ski destination. It maintains a perfect harmony with the local natural environment, providing a place where visitors can truly experience the essence of a Japanese winter.

The slopes are divided into specialized zones to suit different skill levels. The Maiko Area features various lifts, courses, and a dedicated snow park. The Nagamine Area offers seamless riding from the top of the Maiko Gondola down to the base. The Ozochi Area focuses on intermediate and advanced runs, providing breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. For maximum convenience, the Ski Center is fully equipped with rental services, lockers, restaurants, and a nursery/childcare room.
The best time to visit is during the winter season from December to March. The snow quality is exceptional during this period, offering the best possible riding-experience. Whether you are visiting for a day trip or staying longer, we highly recommend visiting the on-site hot spring facility in the late afternoon to soothe your muscles and recover from the day's activities.
Beyond standard skiing and snowboarding, the resort offers various programs such as snow park experiences and private lessons. For those looking to refine their skills, special plans like the Sunday afternoon private lesson (2-hour session) are available. The experience of soaking in a natural hot spring after a day on the slopes is one of the most cherished activities at this resort.
The resort is conveniently located near Echigo-Yuzawa Station, a major stop on the Joetsu Shinkansen line. A free shuttle bus runs from the station for easy access. If traveling by car, the resort is located near the Kan-etsu Expressway Shiozawa-Ishiuchi IC, making for a scenic drive. The surrounding Minami-Uonuma area is also famous for its high-quality rice and local delicacies, making it an excellent base for regional sightseeing.
As this is an outdoor winter activity, please ensure you wear high-quality thermal clothing. Be sure to bring essential gear such as ski wear, gloves, and goggles. If you plan to use rental equipment, we recommend checking the details on the official website in advance. Additionally, if you plan to use the hot spring facilities, please check the required items (such as towels) to ensure a smooth experience.
